All Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

What does the Port of Whitman County do?

The Port develops industrial real estate, operates an airport (Business Air Center), manages recreational spaces like Boyer Park & Marina, and builds broadband networks to serve Whitman County communities. We support economic development through infrastructure investment and business partnerships.

Can a port operate without water access?

Yes. Many Washington State ports focus primarily on economic development rather than water access. The Port of Whitman County maintains both waterfront facilities on the Snake River and inland industrial properties.

Does the Port offer container shipping services?

The Port does not offer container shipping services directly. Those services are available through nearby facilities such as the Port of Lewiston.

How is the Port governed?

The Port is overseen by a three-member Port Commission. Commissioners serve six-year terms and are elected by district. The Commission sets policy, guides long-term planning, and meets regularly in public sessions.
